Fine Watercolour Portrait

Watercolour composition on paper, signed John Newby lower left, depicting a tender moment between a mother and her young daughter in an ice-skating rink locker room. The mother, dressed in a white jacket, is carefully tying the laces of her daughter’s skates: Her concentration and gentle touch highlight a sense of care and warmth.

The little girl, sitting on a wooden bench, wears a cozy, knitted pink and blue Nordic-style sweater, gazes downward with an expression of quiet patience and focus.

The soft, realistic watercolor technique beautifully captures the textures of the clothing, the natural tones of the wood, and the cool, crisp atmosphere of the rink. The subtle interplay of light and shadow enhances the depth of the composition.
