Gypsy Mother and Child, Original Oil on Canvas

Original mid-century oil on canvas by French painter Georgette Nivert, signed lower left. A tender, intimate portrait of a young mother cradling her child, painted in Nivert’s signature style: fluid black contour lines, soft glowing skin tones, and those large, dark, expressive eyes. The warm earthy background sets off rich accents of rose, coral, and a vivid turquoise blue.

Nivert was born in Paris around 1900 and trained at the École des Beaux-Arts. She exhibited regularly at the Paris Salons, including the 1927 Salon des Tuileries, and was recognized for her maternities, portraits, figure studies, and especially her depictions of gypsy subjects.
