Moody Coastal Landscape on Canvas

Moody, atmospheric landscape on canvas, signed lower left, anchored by a gnarled foreground tree rendered in thick, expressive brushwork. The trunk twists upward along the left side of the composition, its dark bark highlighted with warm brown and ochre notes, while a canopy of loose green foliage spreads overhead in sweeping, textured strokes.

Beyond the tree, the scene opens to a calm body of water and low marshy banks, with a distant horizon stretching beneath a sky filled with heavy, luminous clouds. The artist contrasts the solidity of the tree with the softness of the background, using cooler greys, blue-whites, and muted greens to create a misty, light-filled depth. Thin vertical drips and gestural marks add an impressionistic, almost weather-worn quality, giving the painting movement and a sense of changing air. Rustic and evocative!
