Oil Montreal City Scene on Canvas

Wonderful oil painting, signed lower left, titled “Carré Dominion Square, Montreal,” and dated 80 verso, presenting a quiet, realistic street-side view of the square on a calm day. In the foreground, a brown horse stands harnessed to a black, covered carriage. The scene feels still and expectant, like a paused moment between rides.

Behind the carriage, the composition opens into a leafy park lined with mature trees that cast long, cool shadows across the pavement and grass. A pale, columned building edge anchors the left side, while the distance is softened with atmospheric perspective and small, scattered figures that give the setting scale. Rising above the treetops, a distinctive green domed structure becomes the visual focal point in the background, lending the cityscape a recognizable Montreal character. The palette is subdued and natural.. Love the gentle daylight and the nostalgic ambiance..
