Warm, nostalgic acrylic landscape on board by renowned Manitoba landscape artist Kenneth Martin , signed lower right, titled “The Old Barn, Charleswood” and dated 1973 verso, centered on a weathered barn set within a golden autumn field, capturing the rural character of Manitoba with a clear affection for old structures, open land, and seasonal light.
The barn sits slightly right of centre, its worn roof and dark timber siding giving it a strong sense of age and history. The white side wall catches the light, creating contrast against the shadowed front and the darker, textured roof. Behind it, a band of trees in orange, rust, green, and brown suggests the richness of fall foliage.
The foreground is filled with tall yellow grasses, painted with lively, directional strokes. Above, the sky is especially striking: broad horizontal bands of grey, cream, and turquoise stretch across the composition. The bright blue openings in the cloud cover echo the cool tones near the horizon and balance the warmth of the field and trees. Charming!
