“Wreck Beach”, Mid Century Naïve-leaning Oil on Canvas

$220

One of a kind: there is only one.

Wonderful oil seascape on canvas panel by Kenneth F Martin, signed lower right, dated 73 and titled “Wreck Beach” verso. A quiet coastal view of Wreck Beach, Vancouver, where a small ferry moves across calm grey-green water beneath a sweep of mountains and clouded sky. Martin layers the scene with soft atmospheric distance: dark forested slopes in the foreground give way to blue mountain forms and snow-capped peaks beyond. The shoreline is painted with loose, rhythmic bands of pale surf, while the boat adds a small human presence within the vast landscape.

The work has a gentle, naïve-leaning charm, with simplified forms and decorative wave lines, but it remains rooted in regional landscape painting. Its appeal comes from that balance: familiar West Coast scenery rendered with directness and warmth. Charming!
